Help Sponsor this cultural landmark event in our community: For a dozen years, Andre Feriante, the award-winning, neo-flamenco/classical guitar virtuoso has performed his annual Valentine’s Day Concert to capacity crowds at Benaroya Hall’s Nordstrom Recital Hall. This year Troupe de Ville joins Feriante for an extraordinary evening of soulful and seductive harmonies certain to ring in the romance of Valentine’s Day. Feriante will perform a musical mix of fiery flamenco, classical guitar standards and spoken poetry set to his original compositions in the style of Neruda and Rumi; followed by a series of romantic favorites performed in the classical jazz styles and a special tribute to his legendary mentor, Andres Segovia. Troupe de Ville also joins Feriante on stage for an improvisational set sure to dazzle with the exquisite musicianship of all six members. One of the only Northwest guitarists to ever train with Segovia in a Madrid master class, Feriante, was born in Italy and came to America in the 1980s. A poet as well as composer, Feriante now lives in the Queen Anne neighborhood of Seattle, WA and for the last 20-plus years, has used Seattle as a base for his international career. His musical path has crossed with numerous Seattle-based musicians, and on special occasions they perform together under the name Troupe de Ville. For the 2010 Valentine’s Day Concert the Troupe de Ville roster of musical guests will include: tenor Steve Thoreson, pianist Overton Berry, Lummi violinist Swil Kanim, guitarist Erich Fridrich, bassist Steve Kim, and guitarist Andre Feriante. After hearing Feriante perform at the Icicle Creek Festival back in May 2009, the multi-talented entrepreneur and arts supporter Harriet Bullitt invited Feriante back to Leavenworth in November 2009 to perform for the Sleeping Lady Fall Series. Bullitt offered to record and release a CD of that concert event. This 12th Annual Valentine’s concert also celebrates the official release of Feriante’s newest CD, “Sleeping Lady Serenade” and it will be available on site for purchase. A nylon string player from the classical tradition, Feriante’s creative blend of classical, flamenco, and Brazilian styles speaks to people from all walks of life--from society sophisticates and blue-collar aficionados to Latin devotees and jazz hipsters. Often called the “People’s Guitarist,” Feriante brings his sensual, contemporary sound to an otherwise traditional genre. His bittersweet style and skillful playing is likened to Brazilian singer-guitarist Caetano Veloso; his style and sound have been compared to Andres Segovia; and his lyrical style to that of Leonard Cohen. Critics cite Feriante’s music for its dreamlike healing quality, much like a piece of Impressionist art. Graceful, elegant, and ardent, he explores the delicate aspects of love and loss.During the past two-plus decades, he’s developed an international following, performing in Europe, South American and throughout the United States. And he continues to receive national and international acclaim. In December 2009, he performed a Christmas concert in Sweden and recently had the honor of playing for Harriett Bullitt at the Sleeping Lady Mountain Resort. Feriante currently hosts “La Guitarra” on Classic King FM 98.1, the Arts Channel.
